P & T was founded by Tanya Doherty and Paul Folkes in March, 2016. Both Tanya and Paul have many years of experience as paralegals.
Was there a catalyst event that prompted you to start your own business or have you been planning it for a while?
After leaving the law firm we both worked in, we decided to open our own business.
What does your virtual business specialize in?
Providing general administrative and paralegal support.
What sets you apart from others in your area of expertise?
We have over 30 years combined experience as paralegals with knowledge of many areas including, but not limited to, corporate, real estate and general litigation.
What do you enjoy the most about what you do?
Being advocates for self-represented litigants.
What do you enjoy the least about what you do?
Not being able to help clients who are truly in need, due to the fact we cannot give them legal advice.
What special challenges has being an entrepreneur brought for you? How have you dealt with those challenges?
We have to learn how to negotiate various government agencies for both our business and on behalf our clients.
If you were to do it all over again, what do you wish you had known first?
Apply for financial help before you begin.
What would you do differently, knowing what you know now?
We would have prepared a business plan before leaving our jobs.
What resources would you recommend? (books, ecourses, websites, etc.)
